Set by Revenue about ten days after each quarter ends, on a sliding scale off the CSO diesel price. Current and past rates on revenue.ie.
Litres × rate. Nothing else. The rate moves every quarter and was nil when diesel was at or below €1.23 a litre, so the annual figure is only a guide. Bulk deliveries under 2,000 litres and fuel from card operators not approved by Revenue don't qualify. Claims go in through ROS, quarterly in arrears, within four months of the quarter end.
Where the litres figure comes from
The number that's hard isn't the rate. It's the litres. A fleet with five fuel cards across three providers, drivers keying the wrong reg at the pump, a van filling on the same card as a truck — by the time the quarter's out, "how many litres went into qualifying vehicles" is a day with a spreadsheet.
Overhaul takes the monthly CSV from your fuel card provider and puts every fill on the right truck, even when the reg was keyed wrong at the pump. Unleaded and non-qualifying vehicles stay out of the count, duplicate fills are flagged, and the odometer typo that would make one truck look like it did 800,000 km is ignored. The rebate report then carries the rate used for each quarter, what's in the claim and what was left out, so the accountant works from one export rather than a folder of statements.
What this calculator is not
It's not a claim, not a prediction of what Revenue will pay, and not a substitute for the person who files your return. It multiplies two numbers you give it. Use it to see whether the rebate is worth the bother of claiming properly — for most fleets over ten trucks, it is.
